5 Winter Styling Tips

1. Make sure you have good layering basics

Ensuring that you have a few close fitting layering pieces in neutral colours (think long sleeve white or black tees or thin merino knits), will both serve to keep you warm, and allow your more colourful and textured knits, shirts and jackets that you wear over the top to pop!

2. Versatile and functional footwear

A lot of women’s most worn winter footwear is the ankle boot. Why? Because they go with almost anything, keep your feet and ankles warm and are usually pretty comfy to walk around in. Black is the most versatile colour but shades of tan and beige are huge this year too and can look super stylish with both casual and work wear.

3. Invest in a ‘timeless’ coat

A statement coat can really add the ‘wow’ factor to a winter outfit but be careful what you buy as not all styles will stand the test of time. Many coats can involve a reasonable cost investment and so it’s worth making sure that you are purchasing something you can wear year after year and not feel like it’s ‘last season’s trend’ when you put it on again next year. Coats made from a high quality wool fabric, in a neutral colour, and with minimal added details (zips, hardware, embellishments).

4. Jackets, blazers and outerwear

Having a variety of styles of these will give you the greatest versatility and something for every occasion. A blazer in a neutral colour-pick the colour that suits you and will go with the most in your wardrobe- black, navy or camel are always super chic and can be paired with anything from jeans, trousers, skirts and dresses. A jacket could be the piece in your wardrobe that is trend focussed-for example the ‘bomber’ is having a moment this year. Outerwear-could be the investment piece so it’s wise to think beyond this seasons’ trend, try and go for a more timeless piece. My pick would be a trench - always stylish from year to year, they are a fantastic transitional piece in between seasons, plus offer a degree of waterproofness! Other outerwear options could include a beautiful wool coat or stylish puffer. When choosing outerwear pieces its important to consider your lifestyle needs-if you spend a lot of time outside-something warm and/or waterproof might need to be your go-to, rather than blazers or jackets.
